Former Atlanta Hawks, Ga. Tech player charged with choking, kidnapping N.C. woman

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A former NBA guard who played for the Atlanta Hawks is facing charges that he assaulted a woman in North Carolina.

Anthony Morrow, who played in the NBA from 2008 to 2017 and spent one season with the Hawks from 2012 to 2013, was arrested in his hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina assault on a female, assault by strangulation, communicating threats and second-degree kidnapping, according to online booking records.

The 37-year-old was booked into the Mecklenburg County Jail on Feb. 10 and posted $15,000 bail two days later, online records show.

Channel 2 Action News’ sister station in Charlotte, WSOC-TV, obtained a copy of Morrow’s arrest warrant. It says that the woman, who was dating Morrow at the time, had “scratches on the right side of her neck, a cut lip, and abrasions on her forehead” after he allegedly choked her with his hands.

Morrow’s attorney told WSOC-TV in a statement that his client denied all of the allegations.

“He has faith in our justice system and has every confidence that a review of the evidence will reveal that he is not guilty,” the attorney said.

Morrow also spent four seasons with Georgia Tech from 2004 to 2008 before joining the NBA.
