ATLANTA — The longest-living president will not attend President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration in January, according to the Carter Center.

The Carter Center confirmed to Channel 2 Action News that since former President Jimmy Carter has been in home hospice care for nearly two years, he will not be attending the inauguration.
Earlier this month, the former president’s grandson, Jason Carter, said the keys to his grandfather’s longevity are his faith and stubbornness.
The 39th president, who turned 100 on Oct. 1, family said he was looking forward to voting for Vice President Kamala Harris.
Carter’s ballot was dropped off at a dropbox at the Sumter County Courthouse near his hometown of Plains, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Former President Carter and former first lady Rosalynn Carter did not attend Joe Biden’s inauguration in 2021, The Associated Press reported. That was the first time the couple missed the ceremonies since Carter was sworn in as the 39th president in 1977.
Former first lady Carter died in Nov. 2023 at the family’s home in Plains after a battle with dementia.
The inauguration of Donald Trump as the 47th president of the United States is scheduled to take place on Monday, January 20, 2025.
Inauguration ceremonies will take place at the U.S. Capitol building in Washington.
