ATLANTA — Former “Real Housewives of Atlanta” star Nene Leakes has announced that her 23-year-old son suffered heart failure and a stroke last month.
Brentt Leakes went into congestive heart failure and suffered a stroke on September 26, his mother announced in an Instagram story on Monday afternoon.

She says that Brentt has had trouble speaking, but was able to speak with her on Monday morning and appeared to be in “good spirits.”
Doctors are trying to figure out what caused the 23-year-old’s health issues, his mother says. Leakes says that they have ruled out her son’s weight playing a factor and they have speculated that it could be a disease he has had since birth that only just flared up.

Nene Leakes says she believes her son’s stress could have played a role.
Brentt Leakes runs The Linnethia Lounge, which he owns alongside his mother. September also marked one year since his father, and Nene Leakes’ husband, Gregg Leakes, passed away from his battle with colon cancer.
In her Instagram story announcement, Nene Leakes said her son’s health issues have caused her to consider selling The Linnethia Lounge, and invited interested parties to reach out to her.
Nene Leakes also filed a lawsuit earlier this year against the production companies behind “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” after she says she suffered consequences for complaining to executives about years of racist remarks from fellow cast member Kim Zolciak-Biermann.
