Friends remember man found shot to death near Atlanta BeltLine as a ‘nice genuine guy’

An entire neighborhood is searching for answers after a man was found shot to death near a popular part of the Atlanta BeltLine.

Atlanta police announced earlier this week the case has been determined to be a homicide.

Channel 2′s Michael Seiden went back out to the scene Friday, where there is a growing memorial along Elizabeth Street NW where Tom Arnold, 60, was shot and killed.

Investigators said he was on his way home after a night out when the unthinkable happened.

“Always been just a really nice genuine guy. Never had a bad word to say about anyone,” is how Evan Foster remembered Arnold.

Foster is the general manager of Pure Taqueria in Inman Park.

He says Arnold was a regular who later turned into one of his closest friends. In fact, he and Arnold shared some laughs together last Friday night.

“He was having a good time, he and his friends, just hanging out having a good time. I said bye to him and unfortunately that was the last time,” Foster said.

What happened next is now at the center of a homicide investigation. Police believe Arnold was headed home, walking near the BeltLine just after 10 p.m. when he was shot and killed.

Joggers discovered his body the following morning.

At this time, police haven’t released a motive or a description of a suspect.

A $10,000 reward has been posted for information that leads to an arrest in the case.
