ATLANTA — Several downtown Atlanta streets were blocked off for almost three hours Monday morning after a suspicious package was left across the street from the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office.

No one was allowed to get within 100 yards of the suitcase on Pryor Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.

Channel 2′s Dave Huddleston learned that Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis had received a threatening message right before the package was spotted.

“I received those messages on social media, on phone calls that come into office and sometimes through letters that come into the office,” Willis said.

Willis told Huddleston that she started receiving the threatening messages on Jan. 29 after former President Donald Trump blasted her investigation into his possible election violation.

In a recorded call, Trump asked the Georgia Secretary of State to find 11,000 votes to help Trump win the presidential race.

“He said some very ugly things about me and other prosecutors. Now, I can’t be in this business and be sensitive and I was not very worried about those things,” Willis said.

But police and county deputies are worried.

Sources in the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office told Huddleston that’s why there was a heavy presence for the suspicious green suitcase on Monday.

The bomb squad sent a robotic device to investigate. Traffic was rerouted or forced to stop in place.

Moments later, a heavily armored member of the Atlanta bomb squad carrying a shield walked up to the suitcase to investigate.

A half hour later, another officer walked up but soon walked away.

Minutes later the all-clear was given as another officer grabbed the bag and carried it away.

The sheriff’s office hasn’t said if anything was found inside the bag. They are just calling it an abandoned bag.

The DA’s presidential investigation will move forward in a special grand jury, which is expected to be impaneled on May 2.
