UNION CITY, Ga. — Three years after false claims about massive election fraud, Fulton County unveiled Thursday its brand new, state-of-the-art election hub and operations center.

It will centralize all the county’s elections offices and warehouse.

Channel 2′s Richard Elliot went to Union City on Thursday where he got a behind-the-scenes look at the new operation.

“I would say COVID and the election of 2020 was certainly, from our perspective, the most challenging time that we have had in Fulton County government,” Fulton County Manager Dick Anderson said.

That was when Donald Trump’s attorneys including Rudy Giuliani showed Georgia lawmakers video of the vote counting at State Farm Arena and announced it was the “smoking gun” of voter fraud in Georgia.

Not only did multiple federal and state investigators prove that wasn’t true, the video and the falsehoods around it feature prominently in Trump’s latest federal indictment and could again in any potential Fulton County indictment for election interference.

“I want everyone in this room who is a voter in Fulton County to raise their hand. This means a lot for you. This is for you,” Fulton County Elections Board Chair Patrise Perkins-Hooker said.

Perkins-Hooker is ready to put that chapter behind them, along with chapters on the office’s self-inflicted controversies that prompted it to be placed under state elections board scrutiny.

“This is where we make sure your votes are counted. This is where we’ll make sure the registrations are tracked. This is where we make certain we’re doing and fulfilling the mission of the board of registration and the department of registration and election,” Perkins-Hooker said.

The state elections board eventually cleared Fulton County of any serious misconduct.
