GREENE COUNTY, Ga. — A Georgia sheriff’s department is warning drivers to remember the Georgia Move Over Law after one of their deputies was nearly hot Sunday night.
The Greene County Sheriff’s Office shared the body camera video of the accident Monday. Deputy Josh Wilson had pulled a car over on Interstate 20 for a broken taillight when another vehicle hit the deputy’s door.
“Deputy Wilson very nearly lost his life during this stop. We are so thankful that he and the person he was stopping were uninjured,” the sheriff’s office said.

Deputy Wilson very nearly lost his life during this stop. We are so thankful that he and the person he was stopping were uninjured. As a reminder, The Georgia Move Over Law requires drivers to move-over one lane when possible if an emergency vehicle with flashing lights is parked on the shoulder of the highway. And if traffic is too heavy to move-over safely, the law requires drivers to slow down below the posted speed limit instead AND to be prepared to stop.
