ATLANTA — A GoFundMe account will help pay for the funeral of a tow truck driver killed in midtown Atlanta.
The fiancé of 41-year-old Troy Simon, Ashley Williams, said she wants to bury him in his home state of New Jersey.
Police say Simon was helping a stranded driver on Interstate 85 late last month when he was hit by a passing vehicle. Investigators say that driver was under the influence.

In a post on the GoFundMe page, Williams said, “Troy was taken from us suddenly and his family and myself are left to pick up the pieces. Troy was a loving, caring, and overall great person and anyone who met him would have nothing but good things to say about him.”
As of publication of this article, a little over $2,700 has been raised to help with Simon’s funeral expenses. The goal is $10,000.
Simon is the second tow truck driver to lose his life helping others on I-85.
Toby Bowden died on March 15 while helping with an accident on I-85 northbound near mile marker 70 in Coweta County. Georgia State Patrol said an impaired driver was driving too fast, lost control to avoid hitting the fire engines and hit Bowden.
