ATLANTA — Channel 2 Action News has learned that Gov. Brian Kemp is quarantining after being exposed to COVID-19.
A spokesman for the governor said Kemp was exposed to someone with the virus while touring the tornado damage in Newnan on Saturday.
The governor tested negative for the virus on Monday.
Kemp got the single-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine on Friday during a visit to Waycross. He went to South Georgia to get his vaccine on purpose because he wanted to urge people there to get the shots.
State statistics show vaccination numbers south of Macon are pretty grim.
Kemp said if people don’t start getting the vaccine in South Georgia, he’ll start sending their allocated doses to other parts of the state where there is a continuing demand for it.

Despite getting the vaccine, you can still get COVID-19 even after getting the shot.
It takes about two weeks following your final dose of the vaccine for you to be considered fully vaccinated.
That’s why many doctors are still warning people as vaccinations go up, not to let down your guard.
