ATLANTA — A great-grandmother is recovering after she said she was hit in the face several times by a shopper inside a Walmart store.
“I thought I was safe. I’m in Walmart,” the woman, who asked not to be named, told Channel 2’s Matt Johnson.
She said her bruises still sting a day after, according to her, a woman punched her in the face repeatedly while she was in the bread aisle of the Atlanta-area store.
“There had to be something wrong with her because you just don’t do that,” the woman said.
The victim was shopping at the Walmart on Howell Mill Road just before 10 a.m. Sunday. She was using one of Walmart's mobility scooters at the time.
“I always ride because my knees are bad,” the woman said.

She said another woman stepped out in front of her in the bread aisle and cussed at her.
“As I went around her, I said, ‘You're the b****,’” the woman said.
At that point, she said, the attacker snapped and punched her once from behind and then got in front of her and punched her five more times.
“I had my glasses on and she just kept socking me in the glasses and then she socked me in my mouth because my mouth is real sore,” the victim told Johnson.
The great-grandmother’s arms are bruised as well from when, she said, she tried to defend herself.
“I kept screaming 'Help.' Nobody came,” the victim said.
The victim said Walmart security eventually came to help her and that's when she noticed her attacker had left something in her scooter.
“I reached down to pick it up and it was her phone. She had dropped her phone in my buggy. Seems God did that, so we could find her,” the victim said.
Atlanta police said they have identified the suspect in this case. She could face simple assault and battery charges.
