Rental scooters used in shooting that left 21-year-old in critical condition, police say

ATLANTA — A shooting on a busy downtown Atlanta street left a 21-year-old man in critical condition.

Atlanta police are now looking for a group of suspects who were seen on scooters and bikes at the time of the shooting.

Police said group confronted the victim as he walked up Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Peachtree Street late Tuesday night.

The man was shot multiple times in the leg and chest and ran down a hill on Martin Luther King Jr. for a couple of blocks before collapsing, police said.

"When they arrived here they found one victim who was shot multiple times," said Capt. Reginald Moorman told Channel 2.

Bullets also hit a car parked on the street, shattering its back window.

APD officers found two scooters and a bicycle left at the scene by a group of four men Police said the shooter was actually on foot.

“Upon looking at the video, the shooter was actually on foot,” Moorman said.

Security cameras inside the Yumm Teryaki restaurant captured the shooting just outside. Detectives are looking at that video to get a good description of the suspects.

“[Investigators were] able to look at some of the scene, some of what happened on video, so we’re trying to see if anyone else saw anything,” Moorman said.

The victim was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
