ATLANTA — As the cost of living has increased across America, we’re all taking home less of our paychecks.
SmartAsset, a New York-based financial technology company, recently analyzed how far an annual salary of $100,000 would go in 76 of the largest cities in America.
They determined the amounts by applying taxes to the $100,000 and then adjusted those figures for the cost of living.

The top city on the rankings is Memphis, where a person earning $100,000 takes home $74,515 after federal and local taxes.
The state of Tennessee doesn’t tax earned income.
But since Memphis has a cost of living almost 14% lower than the national average, those after-tax earnings are actually worth $86,444 when adjusting for the cost of living.
In Atlanta, a $100,000 income is worth $70,317 after taxes and a cost of living adjustment.
Atlanta comes in at #39 on the list of 76 cities in the rankings.

The city where a $100,000 income is worth the least after taxes and a cost of living adjustment is New York City.
When all is said and done, you’d take home only $35,791.
Texas cities dominated the top 10 in the rankings.
Thanks to the lack of state income tax and the low cost of living, seven of the 10 cities in the top 10 are located in Texas.
