ATLANTA — For the first time on Thursday, Atlanta rapper Melvin Adams, also known as Scales from the Grammy-nominated hip-hop group Nappy Roots, spoke about the night he was kidnapped, robbed and shot.
“Making it home alive, that’s what I thought about,” Adams said.

Atlanta police said on Aug. 17, two men walked into Atlantucky Brewing on Northside Drive in the Castleberry Hill neighborhood.
Adams and one of his group members own the brewery.
The men demanded cash, according to police, but the brewery has a cashless bar.
Police said the men then forced Adams into his Mercedes and forced him to drive towards his home in Hapeville to get money.
Adams said one of the men shot him as he tried to escape from the car.

“I was shot in the leg after I made the decision that I have to get out of this car. I jumped out of the car and we had a tussle, and I ran my way and they ran their way,” said Adams.
Police said they have some leads in the case after they reviewed surveillance video in the area.
Adams is now recovering.
His group member and brewery co-owner William Hughes has new security measures in place.
“We have security that is here and they will be here for a while,” Hughes said.
Adams said he has no animosity towards the men who shot him.

“I don’t have a vendetta, I’m not looking to go shoot anybody or return any damage to anybody, I just want to turn this into something positive,” he said. “I just want us to all do better — care about the next man.”
APD are still searching for the suspects.
This was the first incident at Atlantucky Brewing.
Both Adams and Hughes said people should feel comfortable returning because of the heightened security.
