ATLANTA — Trees loaded down with ice fell across metro Atlanta on Friday and into Saturday, which caused power outages for tens of thousands of people when they hit power lines.
Channel 2′s Courtney Francisco was in Piedmont Heights neighborhood on Friday where residents were in the dark and without heat.
One side of the street lost power, while the other side of the street didn’t.

“I mean it’s pitch black over there. No street lights, you can see,” Avi Ahlzadeh said. “I’m seeking power and heat.”
He was heading to his office on Friday, two hours after he lost power at his home.
His neighbor said he heard a big tree fall.
“I heard a massive loud crash. That huge tree down the street falls over and we knew immediately,” Matt Henson said. “The power goes out.”
Across metro Atlanta, more than 90,000 customers were in the dark late Friday night, according to Georgia Power data alone.
Most of those were in Fulton and DeKalb counties.
“We keep checking the thermostat. It’s like 60 degrees right now,” Henson said.
A cold home can cause other problems too.
“The pipes and everything will freeze up,” Ahlzadeh said.
Workers in the neighborhood said they have to restring power lines and repair power poles.
They estimated repairs there would be completed at 3 a.m.
“I see they’re working really hard to get it up. It’s not easy,” Ahlzadeh said.
As of Friday evening, that crew had been working over 16 hours and were preparing to continue overnight and into the morning hours.
