COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Throughout the country, businesses are having to pivot to keep up as inflation is takes its toll.
Channel 2 Cobb County Bureau Chief Michele Newell spoke with Susan Harlan of Vickery’s Hardware Store in Smyrna, who said that in order for their family business to stay afloat, they have had to jack up prices, which is something she says she worries about.

“It can be from a few dollars to a few hundred dollars depending on the merchandise we are buying,” Harlan said.
While customers are still buying lawn and gardening needs from Vickery’s, Harlan said she is not worried about things now, but more so what will happen in the future.
“I think back to 2008 and what a really hard time that was for us, so I definitely don’t want to go back to that. I’m hoping there’s a turn around here before that happens,” she said.

Deborah Dombrowski owns a health food store in Marietta and is also experiencing the effects of inflation.
“Everything goes up from $2 to $4 just depending on the vendor itself,” she said.
While her business is affected by inflation, Dombrowski is not raising the prices on items. Instead, she is providing discounts where she can.

“I’m able to pass these discounts onto them so that it doesn’t hit them quite as hard,” Dombrowski said.
Other business owners who spoke to Newell say they are noticing how their customers shop to look for ways to cut costs.
