ATLANTA — A Southern University football player injured in a game against the University of Georgia is making major strides in his journey to walk again.

Devon Gales suffered a spinal injury and was paralyzed after a collision with Bulldogs kicker Marshall Morgan during the game on Sept. 26, 2015.

We visited Gales Thursday during one of his therapy sessions at the Shepherd Center.

He is now using a walking machine similar to a treadmill.

“I really feel different from it now, like I can really put pressure down and really feel my leg muscles moving and trying to stand up now,” Gales said.

He said the training is strenuous, but he pushes through, hoping that he can be an encouragement to others who may feel like giving up.

“Keep fighting and never give up because when you keep working and you just work and go through the process, something great will come out of it,” Gales said.
