ATLANTA — A jogger shot in what police are calling a crime spree in Buckhead over the weekend is getting ready to leave the hospital.

Andrew Worrell was shot Saturday morning while out for a jog. The shooter later shot at another group of joggers and hit someone with his car. That victim has not yet been identified and remains in critical condition.

“My heart just sank knowing there was another victim and somebody else’s family was in pain and way worse,” said Anne Worrell, Andrew’s wife.

She told Channel 2′s Michael Seiden that doctors are running a few more tests and he should be discharged in the morning.

“He is so lucky and we are so thankful that this is not any worse than it already is,” said Anne Worrell.

The alleged shooter, Gaelen Newsom, has been arrested and charged with multiple felonies, including attempted murder.

Police saw Newsom may have been in the middle of a mental health crisis when he committed the crimes.

Seiden pulled records for Newsom and found that besides a speeding ticket, he has had no run-ins with law enforcement.

Newsom is set to appear before a judge for the first time virtually Monday morning at 11 a.m.
