“I’ve decided I’m not going to mourn her, I’m going to celebrate her, because of all that she brought to the city, to this newsroom and all she brought to me,” Pearson said.

Pruitt said he remembers covering Coretta Scott King’s funeral procession live with Moore.

“Suddenly her voice broke, and although she wasn’t on camera, you could tell she was crying. Tears,” Pruitt said. “It was an amazing moment in that one action of letting her emotions show through, cracking that professional veneer that we all try to have.”

Pruitt said she connected with the viewers who were feeling exactly the same way.

“One of the wonderful things about Jovita was that she had the ability to show that caring and emotion while still being professional,” Pruitt said. “And that connected her in a very real sense to her audience. It was why they loved her so much and we love her so much. "

Burns remembered how Moore’s smile lit up the room.

“Her personality was absolutely incredible,” Burns said. “One thing pronounced about Jovita was that she was a humble person. She was a very popular anchor woman, but a humble person. That humility you could see on set.”

Burns said people respected Moore because of her intelligence, integrity and her humble nature.

Pearson said that Moore’s legacy is three-fold: In the newsroom, she was a leader. In the community, she gave of her time, her talent and her finances.

“And her legacy for all of us is a real simple one: Live each day looking for a way to help others and being the best you that you can be in whatever career you’re in.”

Pearson said that Moore put 100% of herself into her job, her community service and her family.
