ATLANTA — The accused shooter whom police say killed a man near the Atlanta BeltLine last month made his first court appearance Monday after he was arrested and charged in the case over the weekend.
A judge denied bail for Brandon Williams, 28, on Monday in what turned out to be a very short court hearing. Williams is accused of killing Thomas Arnold, 60.
Channel 2′s Audrey Washington watched on in what ended up being a very short, virtual hearing where the judge flat out told Williams she would not set a bond because of the felony murder charge.
Someone found Arnold shot and killed near the Atlanta BeltLine on Feb. 26. Last week, police released surveillance video of persons of interest in the case.
About 48 hours later, police announced an arrest. Detectives believe Williams was the shooter. Williams has been charged with felony murder and other serious offenses.
Police said they don’t believe Williams acted alone and are searching for additional suspects.
“You can run but you cannot hide. We have a very elite team that is looking for you along with our federal partners. We ask for you to turn yourself in. If not, we have persons that are looking for you and will bring you into custody,” Lt. Ralph Woolfolk said following Williams’ arrest.

Arnold’s family released a statement to Channel 2 Action News, saying:
“Family and friends are thankful for the arrest and hope that the killer and anyone else involved will be brought to justice. Tom will be remembered as a selfless friend, brother, and neighbor — always willing to help others in need.”
Lisa Jordan works across the street from where the killing happened. She said it’s clear the people who knew Arnold are heartbroken and on edge.
“It’s unsettling for this community for sure,” Jordan said.
Jordan said she things police have a good handle on the case as they continue to search for at least two other persons of interest.
“I think they’re on it. It seems like the footage is strong enough for them to determine who the other the gentlemen are,” Jordan said.
A memorial has been placed in the area where Arnold was found. A sign says: “In memory of Thomas Arnold a fierce friend and ally.”
“It gets like scary, just the feeling. I never thought anyone would get killed though,” said Brendon Aldridge, who lives in the area.
People told Washington that they do feel better knowing there are more cameras around.
