ATLANTA — A Superior Court judge has extended the deadline for Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis to respond to a motion filed by former president Donald Trump’s attorneys tied to the investigation looking into potential tampering in the 2020 presidential election here in Georgia.
The former president’s lawyers filed a motion in March demanding Willis be disqualified and the report from a special purpose grand jury looking into the matter be tossed out.
Judge Robert McBurney had initially set a deadline of May 1 for Willis to respond to the motion, but the judge has now extended that deadline to May 15 after another person joined in on the case.

In a new filing Monday, McBurney said he extended the deadline “so that all arguments can be considered together.”
The move comes just a week after Willis sent a letter to the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office saying she expects to announce her decision on any possible indictments in the term of court that runs from July 11 to Sept. 1.
She said she was providing this information so the sheriff’s office would have time to prepare for adequate security around the courthouse.
