Labor Day weekend activities around metro Atlanta that’ll cost you less than lunch

ATLANTA — We’re coming up on a long weekend break — Labor Day. And with inflation, what if you don’t want to spend a lot to have fun?

No plans? Not a problem, even if you don’t want to spend a lot this weekend.

“You can definitely come out here to Centennial Park,” said visitor Hernadez. The fountains are classic Atlanta fun, especially for the Hernandez family at Centennial Olympic Park.

“(It’s) good for the kids, gives parents freedom,” Hernadez said.

“You don’t have to spend a lot of money to have fun in Georgia. There’s so much to do,” said Explore Georgia’s Deputy Commissioner of Tourism Mark Jaronski.

Jaronski says “Explore Georgia” has lists of free and low-cost fun for locals and tourists.

Nicole Wade was at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historic Park.

“I’m so glad this is what Atlanta offers us,” said Wade. “We’ll be taking the tour going where he grown up visiting the church today, so this is very historical in my life just to witness this.”

“I love it. I just love it,” visitor Elaine Gray said.

On two wheels or your own two feet, there is no charge to hop on the Atlanta BeltLine.

“Go to the North Georgia Mountains and our great national and state parks go down to the coast,” Jaronski said.

Or now that gas prices have dropped, hit the road to Savannah, where a riverfront development opened during the pandemic.

“End of summer festival with free activities and events for the family including live entertainment all weekend long,” Jaronski said.

Or head toward the Georgia mountains, where our Channel 2 family loves to explore.

A $5 parking pass will take you into some of the most beautiful spots in the state.

AAA expects Americans to travel at pre-pandemic levels this weekend.
