Atlanta — Atlanta police have responded to several shooting incidents in metro Atlanta as crowds flood the city ahead of Sunday night’s NBA All-Star Game at State Farm Arena.

Police responded to two shootings on Oak Street at around 8:30 p.m. One man was found dead of a gunshot wound at the scene. Another victim with a gunshot wound was taken to the hospital. It’s unclear if the two shootings are related.

Around 5 p.m. Sunday, police responded to reports of a shooting at the RaceTrac gas station on Piedmont Road and John Wesley Dobbs. Police found one man shot and another injured after what they saod was an attempted robbery.

Another shooting broke out at a nightclub early Sunday morning.

One woman who made the trip to Atlanta from Augusta with her friends for a birthday celebration told Channel 2 Action News reporter Christian Jennings she and others heard gunshots after leaving the club on Courtland Street at around 3 a.m.

The woman, who did not want to be identified, told Jennings it was total chaos as people went running for cover.

“After the concert, there was a shooting. A guy got shot in the parking lot and ran across the street to the club. I got pushed down in the midst of it. It was really scary cause the guy was like right behind me and he got shot in the arm,” she said.

Police worked on another shooting at about the same time a few miles away on Whitehall Street. Officers said the incident stemmed from an argument between two men. One man was shot and transported to Grady Hospital. The other man was arrested.

The series of shootings this weekend follow a violent few weeks in Atlanta.

Atlanta and Brookhaven police responded to at least nine shootings in a 24-hour period earlier this week. Last weekend, one person was killed and 11 were injured in several shootings across the city.
