At least 480 dogs in metro Atlanta shelters in need of homes due to severe overcrowding

ATLANTA — A metro Atlanta animal rescue is asking the community to consider adopting a dog from one of their severely crowded shelters.

LifeLine Animal Project said at least 480 dogs need to find homes within the next two weeks due to severely crowded shelters across metro Atlanta.

“As you know, LifeLine Animal Project is committed to saving all healthy and treatable pets that come into our care,” officials wrote on Facebook. “Our teams are struggling, and we believe dogs deserve so much more than can be provided in these overcrowded environments.”

This is not the first time the organization has struggled with severe overcrowding.

In late January, the organization said 150 needed to find homes within a week, or they would have to be euthanized due to the lack of space in the shelter. Luckily, their needs were met, and 345 dogs found new homes by the deadline.

The following are the shelter dog populations and the number of dogs that need to be adopted from that shelter within the next two weeks:

• 350 dogs at the Fulton County animal shelter. 200 dogs must find homes.
• 490 dogs at the DeKalb County shelter. 200 dogs must find homes.
• 80 dogs at the LifeLine Midtown shelter. 50 dogs must find homes.
• 61 dogs at the LifeLine Community Animal Center. 30 dogs must find homes.
