ATLANTA — A child witnessed unthinkable violence Monday night when Atlanta police said a man was shot and killed in a car with the child in the same vehicle.
The shooting happened around 6:30 p.m. on Park Regency Place, which runs right behind Phipps Plaza.
Police told Channel 2′s Christian Jennings that the police believe the suspect and victim knew each other.
Investigators said a 25-year-old man was shot nearby and managed to get back in his car. Police said the victim quickly wrecked the car, crashing into a tree — and a small child witnessed it all.

Atlanta police told Jennings that the child wasn’t hurt and is safe with their family.
Investigators believe the victim and suspect got into some sort of dispute and it escalated.
Christopher Baldwin lives in one of the apartments nearby. He told Jennings that he had just gone out to get food. He said that when he came back, he couldn’t get into his apartment.
He said he was horrified to see a man’s body on the ground and a child still in the car.
“I saw there was a guy laid out in the grass. He had stumbled out of his car or something,” Baldwin said. “it’s super unfortunate. My heart and prayers go out to them for sure.”
Police said they currently don’t have a description of the suspect. They’re hoping anyone with information will call Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477.
