ATLANTA — A kidney transplant recipient reunited this week with the near-stranger who saved his life.

Woody McClure was in desperate need of a kidney transplant. McClure is well-known in Atlanta’s pool playing community, and his friends in his pool league decided to help him find a donor. %

They posted signs at a northeast Atlanta bar, Mr. Cue’s Two, that read, “Wanted Alive: One kidney to save a life. A dear friend to pool, Mr. Cues, and our family needs your help! See Counter for details. Thank you.”

A man, who was just an acquaintance, came forward and offered one of his kidneys.

“If Rick didn't put a sign up and take a step to some of his customers, then we wouldn’t be standing here talking to you now,” said donor Peter Monk.

Monk and McClure reconnected at the bar Tuesday. %

“I don’t deserve this, but the best thing I can do is to be grateful for people that I know and don't know that stepped up to give me the gift of life,” McClure said.

April is National Transplant Donor month.
