Man facing murder charges after 6-year-old boy dies, APD says

ATLANTA — A family is desperate for help burying a 6-year-old killed in one of Atlanta’s latest child abuse cases.

Atlanta investigators said someone showed up at Fire Station 14 on Lee. St. around 11:15 p.m. Wednesday with a little boy, and he was unconscious.

Paramedics rushed him to the hospital, but doctors could not save him.

APD began investigating the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.

Police accuse Dashon Jones, 24, of beating Tobias Perkins, Jr., 6, to death last week.

Officials state warrants were provided to Fulton County Jail where Jones is already being held on unrelated charges.

Channel 2 Action News is working to find out when he was arrested.

Jones is charged with murder, first-degree cruelty to children, and failure to appear.

Family said Jones was in a relationship with the little boy’s mother at some point.

The little boy’s father has created a GoFundMe to help with the burial.

A vigil is scheduled for Wednesday, March 27 in Tobias’ honor at 8:15 pm at Willie A. Watkins Funeral Home at 1003 Ralph David Abernathy Blvd SW.

The investigation is ongoing.
