ATLANTA — Hundreds of people gathered Tuesday night on the Mays High School football field to say goodbye to a 15-year-old who was shot and killed in his own home.
Marquez Montgomery, a sophomore, played defensive end on the team.
“It's frustrating. You have a high school student who had a future and now it's basically vanished,” a parent at the school, Jaber Rasheed, said.
Police say the teen was murdered by his own cousin, Dontavious Montgomery, at the home on Adkins Road Monday night.
"The fact that it was his cousin, it's hard to comprehend that -- him intentionally wanting to kill him,” Rasheed said.

Homicide detectives say the 21-year-old suspect shot his younger cousin in the head for no reason.
Sources tell Jaquez he allegedly committed the crime with a stolen gun out of Henry County.
“For that to happen, it's devastating for everybody,” Rasheed said.
Jaquez did some digging into the suspect's past and learned he was out on bond on a previous murder charge.
Court records show that in January 2015 Dontavious Montgomery was arrested and charged with the murder of Nicholas Roberts.
Police say he stabbed Roberts inside an apartment in Southwest Atlanta.
Then after sitting behind bars for nine months, the suspect was released on a $100,000 bond on Oct. 12, 2015.
The judge required the entire bond amount to be posted.
One year later police say he killed his cousin, robbing the teen of his dreams of going to college and playing in the NFL.
“He was sweet, funny, cool. He just got along with everybody,” friend Terrence Morton said.
