ATLANTA — Police are investigating after they say two people were shot near a MARTA transit station.

The incident happened near the Five Points MARTA station on the corner of Peachtree Street and Alabama Street.

Witnesses said two men were arguing and one pulled out a gun and started shooting.

Two bystanders were shot.

“There were some kids that had just cross the street and the kids barely missed the crossfire and other bystanders got shot,” witness Jeffery Jones said.

Bystander Jaron Ramsby, 34, was killed.  The other is being treated at Grady Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police tell Channel 2 Action News Ramsby was homeless.

“They shot one in the torso and in the chest and they shot the other man in the leg,” Jones said.

Atlanta police are looking for the shooter.

“We know there’s a lot of people out here. It’s a busy area, so we’re sure someone knows who the shooter is. So we’re asking them to provide us with some information,” Atlanta police Lt. Charles Hampton said.

Jones said he is relieved that the children did not get hur,t and he will rethink walking by the MARTA station the next time he’s in the area.

“It touched me pretty good. I’m going to be on my P's and Q's from now on when I come down through here because it happened so quick and so easy and it could have been me,” he said.
