Meet some of the first Georgia babies born in 2017

ATLANTA — New parents across Georgia are celebrating the arrival of the first babies of 2017.

One of the first born after the clock struck 12 was Camauri Kylie Kennedy Jr., who was born at 5:13 a.m. at Piedmont Henry Hospital.

Piedmont Henry Hospital told Channel 2 Action News Kennedy is the first child for mother Sabrina Raphael and father Camauri Kylie Kennedy Sr. of Locust Grove.

Channel 2 Action News also found out a girl and her father will now share the same birthday.

Piedmont Fayette Hospital said Brittney Lawrence delivered Meghan Freeman at 7:37 a.m. on New Year’s Day.

Meghan’s father, Irvin Freeman, was the first New Year baby born in Dothan, Alabama in 1990.

Southern Regional Medical Center also told Channel 2 Action News that Otis and Kasha, of the Southern Atlanta area, celebrated the birth of their second child, Kayla. Baby Kayla was born at 7:28 a.m. at 5 pounds 4 oz. and is 17.5 inches long.

Both mother and baby were reported healthy after the timely arrival.

In keeping with family's love of Disney’s “The Lion King,” the couple chose the name Kayla. They said, “We didn’t plan to name our girls after The Lion King, but when we realized our first daughter, Nala, was a Lion King character, the choice of Kayla was obvious.”

Otis, the new father, is very happy with his new daughter, and reports “that she is such a good baby, and so very calm.”

Baby Kayla declined to comment, but seems very happy. Kayla’s first guests were her aunt and big sister.

In celebration of the birth, the couple received gift baskets from Southern Regional Medical Center’s Labor and Delivery nurses and a gift basket from Southern Regional’s Volunteer Auxiliary.
