ATLANTA — Shenika Ponder told Channel 2′s Berndt Petersen that shopping for clothes, especially when your five children need school uniforms, can be difficult.
“It’s ridiculous right now. The prices are hard on us. Being a single mother, it’s very hard on me right now,” Ponder said.

That is why All Saints’ Episcopal Church in midtown Atlanta is running its second annual School Uniform Giveaway.
Hundreds of local families are able to get what they need. Most of the wardrobe is brand-new.
“They are so proud of the way their kids look, and their kids are like ‘look at me’,” uniform giveaway volunteer Sue Everets said.
This year the church teamed up with the Midtown Assistance Center. The nonprofit is sending every family home with a big bag of free groceries.
“The cost of eggs. Cereal. Everything is up. Skyrocketed. And the benefits have not kept up with that inflation,” executive director Jenny Jobson said.

Ponder said she is grateful. She said new clothes for school are important to kids and moms.
“I love them for this. I love that we can come together as a community and everybody can help the ones in need,” Ponder said.
The church’s free clothing program is called Threads and it’s year around. The School Uniform Giveaway runs through Saturday.
