ATLANTA — The family of a 12-year-old boy who was killed released balloons on what would have been his 13th birthday.
Before that, the family went door-to-door Friday trying to find anyone who may have information about the crime.
Several groups including Forever ATL, concerned Black clergy and Hosea Helps organized a candlelight vigil for David Mack.
They raised money to help his family.
The boy’s family told Channel 2′s Tom Jones that it has been an emotional day as they passed out flyers to find his killer and sang happy birthday to him.
Like any sister, Amber Mack had only kind words for her 12-year-old brother.
“He was one of the most annoying people ever, but you could never imagine life without him,” Amber Mack said.
Jones went along as the family went door to door, passing out flyers in the neighborhood where the seventh grader was found dead along a creek bed near Shirley Drive.

Glenda Mack, David’s grandmother, wants people to know what was taken from her.
“I raised him from a baby, and I want to know what happened to him,” Glenda Mack said.
Most neighbors told Jones they had heard about David’s murder.
“It breaks my heart because, one, not just it being so closed to home, but for it to be so intentional,” a neighbor said.
Mack’s family really wants the killer in custody.
“It’s hard knowing there is a killer out there and there’s no evidence out there at the moment,” Mack’s uncle, Wesley Allen, said.
Glenda Mack said David told her he was going to play football with friends that day. He never came home.
“Not a minute that goes by that I don’t miss him,” Glenda Mack said.
Police say their investigation continues.
The reward to find David’s killer is now up to $15,000.
