ATLANTA — Southwest Atlanta MARTA riders living along County Line Road and Niskey Lake Road say they’re left with no choice but to walk nearly two miles to the closest bus stop.
That bus stop is located south of Campbellton Road on County Line Road.
“Do you really think that we want to walk down the street, to get to the other side of the street?” MARTA commuter Monica Hart asked Channel 2′s Ashli Lincoln.

This week notices were placed on nearly 20 bus stops along Route 183, alerting riders that several stops will be closing on April 22.
People who live here are worried about having to walk a longer distance in a neighborhood with crime concerns.
“Just walking up that area it’s very, very, scary,” she said.
MARTA says while they understand riders’ concerns, this decision was made for a public safety necessity.

MARTA says an investigation was done by their office of safety after complaints from drivers about buses crossing into oncoming traffic.
In a statement, MARTA says, “An investigation by the Office of Safety recommended this portion of Route 183 be discontinued as the street is too narrow for buses to maneuver through curves without crossing into the other lane.”
As a result, MARTA is implementing a safety detour and buses will no longer operate along this section of Niskey Lake Road and County Line Road.
