Third kidnapping, robbery of metro Atlanta woman believed to be tied to same man

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. — Police are releasing new details about a third kidnapping and robbery believed to involve the same suspect over the course of just a few weeks.

Sandy Springs Police said the incident happened October 9 just after 6 p.m. on Roswell Road near Mt. Paran Road. Police said a man got into the back seat of a woman’s car while she was inside.

Police said he forced her to drive to an ATM within the city of Atlanta and ordered her to withdraw cash.

The victim wasn’t harmed.

Police are still searching for the suspect, who detectives believe may be tied to similar incidents with two other women in September. All three victims spoke with detectives, who developed a sketch of the man based on their descriptions.

Channel 2 Action News spoke to one of those women, Robin Cauthen, who said a man suddenly got in the backseat of her car at an Atlanta hair salon on Sept. 25.

“The exact same time, I’m getting in, this man is getting in,” she said. “He said drive or I’m going to blow your (expletive) head off.”

Cauthen said that she drove him to an ATM at Atlantic Station, where he directed her to withdraw hundreds of dollars.

Cauthen said the man told her he’d recently lost his job and needed money to feed his son.

“I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry,” she recalled him saying. “He said, ‘Don’t act like what I’m doing is okay. It’s not okay.’”

Days later, police said the same man struck again in the same area, kidnapping a woman from a QuikTrip on Sidney Marcus Boulevard.

Police are asking anyone who recognizes the man in the video or has information about the robberies to contact Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477. You can remain anonymous and be eligible for a $2,000 reward.
