ATLANTA — Employees and business owners from about 15 of Atlanta’s popular nighttime hot spots were invited for Mayor Andre Dickens inaugural Training Day event on Saturday.
It’s a series of workshops designed for nightlife industry leaders to learn about the city’s policies and regulations including having proper permits, capacity, first aid and alcohol awareness.

“In order for anything to work, there has to be cohesiveness, there has to be cohesion,” said Trevor Young, Security Manager for the Blue Flame Lounge in Northwest Atlanta. “This is the first step in creating that between the businesses and the city.”
Young says Blue Flame needs a stronger police presence.
“Most criminals and most crimes are opportunistic,” Young said. “If there’s no opportunity, the odds are, it won’t happen as often.”

Mayor Dickens says he sees the shootings and killings happening at our nightclubs, and says its about building better relationships.
“They are going to learn what we expect them to do, and then they’ll give me input,” Mayor Dickens said. “Some of them are asking for more APD officers, so we’re going to have a good dialogue today. But, this is training day for them to learn what we’re going to put in place.”

Training Day is a part of the city of Atlanta’s new Nightlife Division, under the Mayor’s Office of Film and Entertainment.
