ATLANTA — A successful Atlanta Businesswoman is celebrating Juneteenth officially becoming a federal holiday by releasing a new shoe line.
Pinky Cole is best known for her Slutty Vegan restaurants. Now, she’s partnering with Steve Madden.
“To finally have this day recognized as a national holiday is long overdue,” Cole told Channel 2′s Larry Spruill. “There’s nothing in the world like being free. We’ve been fighting for our freedom for years.”

That freedom is allowing Cole to express herself as businesswoman.
“As an entrepreneur, and a Black woman entrepreneur, I have a responsibility to continue to show what freedom looks like,” Cole said.

Recently, Cole joined forces with shoe brand Steve Madden to release a limited-edition vegan sneaker.
“I’m happy that we were able to do that, because not only did we show people that we can do it, but we also gave an opportunity for the vegans to have some shoe options,” Cole said. “Because I know for me, as a full vegan, it’s really difficult for me to go out and find some shoes that I really like.”
“It’s all vegan, and that’s the most important part, and it’s backed by PETA,” said Cole.

The shoe is styled with the signature colors of white, red and yellow, as well as their classic slogan print.
“I’m encouraged to continue to do the work, because I know how my forefathers had to work hard and sacrifice their lives, and their careers, and their families, to make sure I’m living the life that I’m living today,” Cole said.
Cole said she’s using her platform to give other people opportunities. She used her own employees as shoe models.
