ATLANTA — Crowds are showing up to pay respects to former President Jimmy Carter as he lies in repose at the Carter Presidential Center in Atlanta.
Officials at the center want the public to know that bags, purses, umbrellas, and backpacks are not allowed at the Carter Center.
They urge you to leave your bags at home or in your car before taking MARTA to the Carter Center.

Prohibited items will be surrendered at the Carter Center and not returned.
An exception will be made for diaper bags, which will be searched by hand.
According to a MARTA spokesperson, “Aerosols, ammunition, animals other than service animals, bicycles, balloons, coolers, drones and other unmanned aircraft systems, explosives, firearms, glass, thermal or metal containers, laser pointers, mace, packages, selfie sticks, toy guns, weapons of any kind, or any other items determined to be potential safety hazards are not allowed.”
Unless you plan to walk or bike to the Carter Center, the only way to get there is to take a bus shuttle from the King Memorial MARTA station to the Carter Center.
However, there is no public parking at King Memorial Station or the Carter Center.
You’ll need to park at another MARTA station and take the train to the King Memorial Station, where you can board the shuttle.
