ATLANTA — MARTA officials say police activity has shut down the North Avenue station in midtown.

The station was shut down around 4 p.m., and MARTA officials are using a bus bridge to transport passengers from the Peachtree Center station to the Arts Center station.

Investigators say a woman was hit by a train. Video from the scene shows a large crowd of people standing outside of the MARTA station waiting for the buses to show up.

Emergency vehicles blocked lanes of North Avenue and West Peachtree Street for a couple of hours during the evening rush.

Shortly after 7 p.m., MARTA officials said they were able to start running trains on the southbound tracks to help alleviate some the crowds that had formed at the Arts Center and Peactree Center stations.

“We appreciate everyone’s patience during this difficult time,” the agency said.

A MARTA spokesperson said they anticipated having everything running back to normal by 9 p.m.
