ATLANTA — Police are asking for the public’s help for information about a triple shooting that left one person dead.
Atlanta police said the shooting happened Wednesday at the Ashley Cascade Apartments. Officers found a woman who had been shot in the leg and she was taken to the hospital.
Officers found two other people shot in an SUV nearby in the middle of Cascade Road. Robert McKinzie, 29, died at the scene. Another person was taken to the hospital.
Channel 2′s Audrey Washington talked to McKinzie’s cousin, who said she knows that someone must know something. Natasha Smith-Staples is now urging anyone with information to come forward.
“It was a senseless shooting, that I do know,” Smith-Staples said.
Family members said McKinzie was at the Ashley Cascade Apartments to drop off his girlfriend when suddenly shots rang out. Smith-Staples said McKinzie’s girlfriend was the woman who was shot in the leg. Police have not identified the two victims who survived.
The SUV McKinzie was in came to an abrupt stop at the intersection of Cascade and Fairburn roads.
Smith-Staples said McKinzie and his girlfriend were trying to get away from the gunfire.
“It’s very difficult,” Smith-Staples said. “We’ve never had anything like this happen, considering how sweet and kind he was.”
Police canvassed the area and conducted interviews, but right now, they have no suspects in custody.
“There’s people out there who saw it, because there was a large crowd around. It happened in broad daylight,” Smith-Staples said. “I really want to stress how important it is for someone to step up. Let’s bring some peace and justice.”
Smith-Staples said McKinzie was a father of two.
“His children are without a father. That was their whole thing,” Smith-Staples said. “They would see him and be like, ‘Daddy, daddy, daddy!' And how to explain to them that they wont see their daddy anymore, you know? That hurts. It hurts a lot.”
Police are offering up to $2,000 for information in the case. Tipsters are asked to call 404-546-2518 or Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS.
