New video shows man open fire in the middle of Neiman Marcus to stop robbers, police say

ATLANTA — Atlanta police say a victim opened fire on the people attempting to rob him in the middle of a department store at Lenox Square.

Police said they were called out to Neiman Marcus inside the mall around 4:45 p.m. Friday after an off-duty officer was flagged by someone who said a person was being robbed inside the store.

When the officer got to the victim, he told the officer that four men attacked him as he was checking out at the store and attempted to steal his bag.

During the struggle, police said the victim pulled out a gun and shot at his attackers.

Atlanta police say two of the four attackers were taken into custody. Police took the victim into custody as well after investigators realized he had outstanding warrants out against him.

Police have identified the suspects as Jamell Gaskin-McLaughlin, 17, and Delon Maurice Robinson, 19. Both have been charged with robbery.

The victim, Treonta Deon Williams, 30, was charged with reckless conduct and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. All three were taken to the Fulton County Jail.

Police say no one was injured in the incident, but there was some property damage to the store. Officers have not released the charges of any of the people involved yet.

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the mall had seen a string of violent incidents.

In February, police found a man shot in the stomach in a parking lot of the mall after police said he met three people in the food court for some type of prearranged sale.

A man was shot by a police officer in a parking deck Jan. 18 during a robbery. Police said the man who was shot was actually a friend of the robbery victim, but wouldn’t put down his weapon. The robber was arrested. Both men were charged.

On Dec. 20, two men robbed and shot a mall employee as she walked to her car in the parking garage.
