ATLANTA — Atlanta police are investigating the killing of a young woman at a popular Buckhead bar.

The shooting outside took place hours after the Anchor Down Bar and Grille should have been closed.

One person told Channel 2’s Steve Gehlbach there were about 100 people in the parking lot around 5 a.m.

A witness heard around 15 shots from across Piedmont Road.

Taylor Hayden, 25, of Texas, was shot near an SUV where investigators collected broken glass, a shattered car window, clothing, and many shell casings scattered from the parking lot into the street where the victim fell.

"She was in her 20's, was transported to Grady and later pronounced dead at Grady," Capt. Ben McGhee said.

Atlanta police homicide detectives are talking to witnesses, but many of them took off after the shooting.

"There were a number of people here on the scene, that's being investigated. Currently we do have different units we brought in to investigate different situations at this business," McGhee said.

That includes APD’s license and permit unit.

The bar currently has an active liquor license, but not to sell anything after 2:30 a.m.

The co-owners, two former NFL players, were arrested less than a month ago when police raided the business.

"It's known as an after-hours spot so when all the other bars close patrons looking for a place to go to the Anchor Bar," McGhee said.

Police say it's cited every few months, with repeated violations, but still draws big crowds of people drinking into the early-morning hours.

"It's the exact same thing over and over and over again," Lt. John Ellis said.
