ATLANTA — Police continue to search for the driver who took off during a stop and killed a man on a bicycle.
It happened in downtown Atlanta at the intersection of Luckie Street and Ivan Allen Jr. Boulevard close to the Georgia Aquarium Monday evening.
Only Channel 2 Action News was there when police found the vehicle 3 miles away in southwest Atlanta.
Police had parts of the intersection blocked off during the evening commute Monday after the attempted traffic stop turned into something much worse.
"I really hope they find the person who did that," tourist Barbara Verrier told Channel 2's Tyisha Fernandes.
The incident started when officers noticed the driver of a gold Chevy with temporary tags was acting suspiciously. Officers said they attempted to stop the driver, but the driver sped off.

“At that point, the supervisors instructed the officers not to attempt to pursue the vehicle,” Maj. Darin Schierbaum of the Atlanta Police Department said.
Moments later, police said, the driver hit a bicyclist, identified as Andrew Whitlock, 37, of Atlanta.
“There was an effort by Atlanta police and a Fulton County Sheriff’s deputy to administer CPR here at the scene that was unsuccessful,” Schierbaum said.
The Whitlock died on the way to Grady Memorial Hospital.

Police said the suspect dumped the gold Chevy in southwest Atlanta. Only Channel 2 Action News was there as police canvassed the vehicle searching for evidence that might lead them to the driver.
Investigators are hoping someone can identify the suspect.
“I don’t know what this world has come to is all I can say,” another tourist told Fernandes, asking not to be identified.
Anyone with information in this case is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477.
