ATLANTA — Police are interviewing a man who they believe killed another man in front of the MARTA station at Georgia State University.

Channel 2′s Tyisha Fernandes was out at the scene Tuesday afternoon shortly after the shooting was reported just before 1:30 p.m.

The entrance off Piedmont Avenue remained closed until just before 5 p.m. after the medical examiner took away the body of the man who was killed in the shooting.

Police said the victim was sitting on a bench near the entrance to the station when the suspect shot and killed him.

Investigators told Fernandes that they didn’t believe any GSU students were involved. But as far as a motive, they’re still trying to figure that out.

“We have some witnesses. We’ve taken statements of the incident. We’ll have to review video cameras and just determine everything that happened. It’s still really early in the investigation,” said Maj. Matthew Carrier with the MARTA Police Department.

Randall Williams said he’s a frequent MARTA rider.

“Why are people shooting in train stations? There’s too many people. You’re going to shoot innocent bystanders like that. It’s careless. The person should be brought to justice,” Williams said.

Police have not released the identity of the person who was killed or if he was a MARTA passenger.

So far, no one has been charged in the shooting.
