ATLANTA — Atlanta police are investigating a shooting involving an officer in southwest Atlanta on Tuesday night.
Police say a sergeant was patrolling in the area of Forsyth Street SW and Brotherton Street SW.
The officer found a car break-in that was in progress and approached the car. He found a man in the backseat of a silver Nissan Altima.

The sergeant fired his weapon and shot the suspect in the face area.
The suspect was taken into custody and detained and police found a gun on him.
He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital and is expected to survive his injuries.

The officer, who has not been identified, was not hurt.
Police have not identified the suspect.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has confirmed to Channel 2 Action News that they were called out.
