Police officer, pregnant wife save couple’s lives while driving to family event

CHATTAHOOCHEE HILLS, Ga. — An area police officer and his wife are being hailed as heroes because of their quick action that helped save a couple’s lives.

Cpl. Joseph Wells of the Chattahoochee Hills Police Department and his family were going to an event on Sunday when they drove past a car along the side of the road in Carrollton.

As they passed the car, Wells said he noticed that both a man and a woman inside the car were slumped over, so he turned around to see what was going on.

When Wells got to the car, he noticed neither was breathing. He called 911.

Wells began CPR on the man and his wife, Lauren Wells, who is nine months pregnant, started CPR on the woman. Both continued CPR until an ambulance arrived.

“Both occupants were transported to the hospital. As a direct result of the expedient, lifesaving actions of Cpl. Wells and Lauren Wells, these two individuals survived and are alive today,” the Chattahoochee Hills Police Department said in a news release Tuesday.

“This incident is an example of the courage, leadership and duty Corporal Wells displays while working in Chattahoochee Hills,” Chattahoochee Hills Police Chief Jim Little said. “We are always on duty and ready to respond. I am thankful and proud of Corporal Wells and his wife, Lauren.”
