ORIGINAL STORY:

ATLANTA — An Atlanta dog owner says someone broke into her car and stole her beloved Shih Tzu who is blind in one eye.

Channel 2’s Steve Gehlbach spoke with the dog’s owner who said she is heartbroken and just wants her dog back.

Owner Lakedra Reed has put up posters in her neighborhood, and Crime Stoppers and Atlanta police have put out an alert asking for the public’s help to find the thief and solve this dognapping.

Reed told Gehlbach that her 11-year-old black-and-white Shih Tzu is named Mr. Lagerfeld.

“I call him Lag,” Reed said.

She said Lag was swiped from Third Street in midtown last Friday night.

“My heart is broken. Someone just took something from me. It’s like a child, so just really want them to return him,” Reed said.

Reed said she brought Lag to her brother’s salon and doesn’t know if she was being watched or targeted by a dog thief.

“I walked him and don’t know if someone seen me walk him,” Reed said.

She left the dog alone in the car and returned about 15 minutes later to find her window smashed.

“I walked back outside, and my car was broken into,” Reed said.

There was no sign of the Shih Tzu. APD’s larceny from auto unit is now investigating, trying to find a suspect and the dog.

“I just really want him back, want him home. It’s the holidays. I don’t know where he is and just want him back home with us.”

Anyone with information in this case is urged to call Atlanta police or Crime Stoppers where there’s a reward of up to $2,000.
