ATLANTA — Police say a man assaulted a 10-year-old girl as she made her way to her elementary school.

Demetrius McClenden’s son practices and plays youth football at Mozley Park nearly every single day.

So when Channel 2's Nefertiti Jaquez told him about the sexual assault and showed him the suspect's composite sketch, he was livid.

“It’s kind of a difficult, very difficult,” McClenden said.

It is difficult for everyone Jaquez talked to -- people who frequent the park or who live in the area -- to understand how this could happen.

“This didn’t just affect her for that day. It’s going to affect her for the rest of her life,” resident Kelly Ogle said.

Police echo that sentiment.

On Sept. 29, they told Jaquez, the little girl was walking along MLK Jr. Drive when a man approached her from behind, grabbed her and dragged her along a trail in a park.

Police said within seconds he forced himself on her while threatening to hurt her if she screamed.

“A monster. There is nothing good inside of you,” resident Asia Green said

Nothing good detectives say about a man who robbed a little girl of her innocence and stripped her of her dignity.

“This is something she will never forget,” McClenden said.

“That makes you angry as a father?” Jaquez asked

“Yes, it does,” McClenden said.
