ATLANTA — Fulton County’s district attorney says a decision on indictments in the grand jury investigation into former President Donald Trump will come down this summer and they’re preparing extra security.

You may remember when they were picking the special grand jury, deputies had all these streets around the Fulton County Courthouse blocked off.

In a statement Tuesday, the Atlanta Police Department said they are ready to ensure safety and address illegal activity.

Some veteran politicians think the DA’s letter is a sure sign that when indictments come down this summer, they will include the name of Donald Trump.

In the letter obtained by Channel 2 Action News on Monday, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis said, “I will be announcing charging decisions resulting from my investigation during Fulton County superior court’s fourth term of court which will begin July 11, 2023 and conclude September 1, 2023.”

“Open-source intelligence has indicated the announcement of decisions in this case may provoke a significant public reaction,” the letter continued.

Veteran political strategist Fred Hicks thinks the extra security is an indication that Willis could charge Trump and many others.

“I do believe this is an indication that the former President Donald Trump will be indicted,” Hick said.

Hicks also told Channel 2′s Richard Elliot that an indictment could hurt Trump’s ability to win votes in Georgia.

“This is a very serious, tangible issue that may very much impact the Republican primary in Georgia, and as Chris Christie said, if a Republican doesn’t win Georgia, it’s hard to win national,” Hicks said.

Just hours after the release of that letter, President Joe Biden announced he would run for re-election.

Georgia’s Republican Gov. Brian Kemp is an outspoken critic of the Biden administration but also advocated for his own party to move on from Trump.

Elliot asked Kemp on Tuesday what a possible Trump indictment could mean for that election.

“Should the current legal problems around the former president affect who the GOP chooses to run against him?” Elliot asked Kemp.

“Well, I feel confident the GOP voters will weigh in on everything that’s going on,” Kemp said.

The governor went on to say Biden’s announcement is not a shocker and criticized his response to inflation and the border crisis.
