ATLANTA — A popular midtown Atlanta bar known for being LGBTQ-friendly is shutting down on Thursday.
Henry’s Midtown Tavern, located near the intersection of 10th St. and Juniper, will close its doors on Nov. 30, according to owner Maureen Kalmanson.
Kalmanson said the bar’s lease was expiring and she was not able to come to an agreement with the landlord to remain open.
“The opportunity to raise rent has presented itself in a big way because of all of the growth here, and I think lots of landlords take huge advantage of that because they can,” Kalmanson told Channel 2′s Courtney Francisco earlier this month.

She said when she told her staff about the closure, they cried.
“It was incredibly sad,” Kalmanson said.
Kalamanson said she hoped people would continue to go to Henry’s sister restaurant, Campagnolo, which will continue to operate.

Henry’s is not alone. Joe’s on Juniper, Einstein’s and Outwrite have also closed previously.
The owner of Hodgepodge Coffee also sent a letter to customers explaining the neighborhood is so desirable, that the rent spike was too high to handle.
It will close Dec. 31 after 12 years in business.
