Popular midtown restaurant closes to make way for new high-rise development

ATLANTA — A popular midtown restaurant has closed to make way for two residential towers just blocks away from Piedmont Park.

Einstein’s closed its doors Sunday, thanking its customers for “the memories.”

“We have so loved being a part of your special moments! To our loyal guests, visitors to the city and our amazing employees (past and present), thank you for making Einstein’s a special place,” the restaurant said in Facebook post.

Einstein’s and Joe’s on Juniper, just about a block away, were both owned by Metrotainment Cafés and have been sold to a South Carolina developer building two new high-rise buildings along Juniper Street.

In a statement to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Middle Street Partners said it was in “active discussions with the property’s ownership team and (we) are committed to working together in hopes to keep the beloved Einstein’s and Joe’s on Juniper as part of the new project,” which is set to include ground-floor retail space.

Kevin Green, president and CEO of the Midtown Alliance, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution it’s always sad to see local institutions go away, but he is hopeful Joe’s and Einstein’s will be incorporated into the new development.

In the Facebook post, Einstein’s said it would still be open for private events through the fall. We are working to learn when Joe’s on Juniper will close down.
