Severe storms to fizzle out throughout the evening

ATLANTA — Severe storms are expected to fizzle out throughout the evening, but afternoon storms left a destructive path across parts of the Atlanta metro.

Severe Weather Team 2 Meteorologist Brad Nitz tracked the storms throughout the evening on Channel 2 Action News at 4, 5 & 6, that brought down trees and power lines across north Georgia.

The storms brought heavy rain, hail and strong cloud-to-ground lightning.

"We're seeing the dying now of the scattered showers and storms," Nitz said.

Nitz said the storms were part of a larger system that is over much of the deep South and we are expected to have similar weather over the next few days.

Most of north Georgia remains in a Level 1 severe weather threat for Monday night.

The biggest impacts include isolated severe storms, wind gusts of 40-60 mph and up to 1 inch of hail.

Tuesday will start out dry in the morning, but more rain and possible severe storms will begin to pop up in the afternoon.

The same pattern is expected to continue on Wednesday.

"Many spots will have an inch, maybe 2 inches of rainfall," Nitz said.
